Tennis instruction: The John McEnroe Tennis Service is one of the best and most deceptive tennis deliveries of all times. Left handed, hard to read, varied, slightly sliced, low bouncing extremely difficult to return. As Roger Federer does today in the first decade of 2000, John instead of brutal force, he used accuracy, variation and spins as a weapon. This tactic proves to be highly efficient throughout the history of tennis. You will rarely have seen the big cannon ball server at the top of the rankings but rather the most skillful one. Pancho Gonzales for example, is a player from the past that everyone associates to a one dimension server with a cannon ball service, but the truth is Pancho was one of the most skillful servers of his time, with a mind boggling mix of huge power and feather feel, that completely threw off his opponents.. John McEnroe was much less powerful than Pancho Gonzales, but he backed-up his outstanding service skills with unmatched volleying to our days.
