Tennis instruction: The tennis topspin forehand open stance.

Sometimes we want to do too much with a shot and often make mistakes in those situations.

In this clip I show you how to hit a basic forehand open stance nicely and relaxed.

Notice how I lead the stroke by rotating hips and shoulders early and charging energy on my right foot/leg to release it as the stroke unfolds.

See how I let the racket head swing naturaly through the ball and upwards over my left shoulder, while my hips and shoulders rotate back into the frontal position.

Of course it looks easy and simple, but it takes practice and nerves to execute under pressure. What you have to keep in mind is:

- No matter how ferocious and aggressive your opponent is, if you keep the ball nice and deep, he can not stroke the next ball until it bounces!

What does this mean for you?

If you do not hit the tennis forehand with excessive pace but deep enough, you will always have plenty of time to recover and get back into position.

On the other hand you may have a frustrated opponent on the other side that may want to finish the point and realizes that it is not going to happen that easy and he might start making some unforced errors.

Note Well:

Photo 1 - Sergio Cruz, charges elastic energy on right leg by anchoring the whole of his body weight on that leg as it bends.

Photo 2 - Releases elastic energy into shot as he lifts legs and makes contact.

Photo 3 - Finishes by transferring body weight to left leg.
