In this side view you can see how Roger Federer prepares and hits a classical one handed topspin backhand: - He makes a large step towards the ball and bends his knees to establish a wide stable base for the stroke by lowering his center of gravity. - His head looks over his shoulder and his eyes are on the ball. - His back swing is in rhythm with the incoming ball, as he starts the forward swing, notice how his racket butt is aimed at the ball. - The ball contact is made out in front, the upward racket head acceleration is continious and accompanied by the rotation of the torso. - Notice how both feet leaving the ground with the rotational force and start getting into the frontal position leading to the recovery steps.
