The Tennis Overhead-smash footwork PDF Print E-mail

The quality of the tennis Overhead-smash footwork is directly related to the top class execution of any tennis overhead smash independentely from the great athleticism needed.

There are two types of foot work that you need to be aware of and that will take your overhead-smash to the next level in a hurry!
Here they are:

- The cross-stitch or carioca step.

- The side step or parallel step.

- If needed either step is followed by a jumped step with a scissors movement of your legs.

- After hitting an overhead move forward toward the net to put an eventual volley away.
- Move your feet at all times and use a strong split step between shots.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of these two types of footwork?

The side step is a basic step that should be used for relatively easy overheads. Easier on your coordination and perhaps the first one to learn.

The carioca step allows you to cover more distance quicker and should be used for deep and challenging lobs. It requires a good coordination chain, it is for advanced players.

The knowledge of both steps is equally important, but the carioca step will bring your tennis overhead-smash to the next level!

If you are an ATTACKER or you enjoy playing doubles, you will want to develop a world class overhead-smash!
