Tennis Lessons - Ten Tips on How to Be a Better Tennis Player

6. Tennis Training

All actions and efforts you make are fundamental, but your tennis, how you are playing it and how successful you are with it, is the fulcrum of all those efforts.

Here is how keep your tennis improving and fresh:

match-analyser

1 - Understand the relationship between your different training cycles in Conditioning, Mental, Technical and Tactical .

2 - When working with heavy loads in the weight room or many repetitions,  it is no time to play points, practice matches or tournaments - Technical development is best suited

3 - In low intensity phases - Use the cross court patterns to develop consistency and points.

4 - Create consistency in your game without stopping to vary your strokes and being creative

5 - In medium intensity phases - focus on strategy, resistance training and begin to compete during practice

6 - In high intensity phases - it is speed time and training should be intense but fast, so should points or drills - 5 to 10 seconds - fast and explosive - finishing points, closing out games, sets, tie-breakers and winners are key.

7 - Intermediate phase between training and competition - Slight decrease in workload give your body a short recovery time with less off court exercises and more match and point play with competitive intensity.

8 - The process of tapering is as important as training hard and give it all in the resistance and speed phases. Tapering is a moment of reprieve between a very intense training phase and the competition phase.  This could be 4 to 7 days allows the athlete full restoration and regeneration of his body and mind for the up and coming competition.

9 - All training sessions should be about installing, confidence, self-believe, winning strategies, positive-ness, positive-ness and more positive-ness in yourself.

10. Never leave your best on the practice court, practice champions do not win tournaments, the goal of practicing is to have a fine tuned athlete, who is hungry, fresh and ready to win.
