Ten Tips on How to Be a Better Tennis Player
10. Tennis Regeneration - Training Pause Most top athletes do not really have pauses, that would drive then nuts!. Here is what most do:
1 - They divide the year in 3 or 4 chunks of 4 months or 3 months training and competition phases. 2 - In recovery periods they keep playing tennis and formal training to a minimum 3 - They develop programs that include phases mostly of one or two weeks which some call active training (these are the top athletes pauses) 4 - Active pauses include periods where athletes mainly train via other sports; called cross-training in some cases (like playing volley-ball, beach-volleyball, Basketball, Soccer and other sports - Particular attention to avoiding injury is very important) 5 - Intensity is kept down and fun and games are high priority. 6 - Swimming or just plainly have fun by playing in the water is a good form of regeneration and an active pause. Note: Excessive swimming (long distances slow) is counter productive for tennis players because you develop muscle mass and muscle groups which will hinder your tennis 7 - Moderate biking is also used in regeneration periods. To much biking can be detrimental to the ever so important balance system of tennis players. 8 - There is no perfect path to regeneration some players use Meditation, Zen, Yoga and other exercises in their recovery routines 9 - Judokas often train freeing themselves from opponents who lay on them while on their backs on the ground. This is a fun exercise great to develop or maintain upper-body and leg strength during active pauses 10. Whatever you do, give yourself at least one week of total inactivity and from then on keep your work load to a minimum, resting as much as you can and have fun while doing it Here is an excellent resource for those of you making college your choice A College Tennis Guide These tennis lessons tips are also available in the form of an E-book for you to use for FREE no strings attached and you can pass it on to as many friends as you like.
