Roland Garros Tennis Lessons - Jo-Wilfried Tsonga - The Forehand Return!

In addition to a superb attacking game Jo-Wilfried Tsonga possesses other great weapons and one of them is the forehand return especially against second serves.

In his customary way Jo-Wilfried does not limit himself at getting the ball back with some topspin in it. Tsonga, looks to do do some damage from the very moment he returns which usually leads to other opportunities.

In this particular video he elects not to step inside the court which he can and often does. Instead he chose to move laterally to place himself in striking distance with the forehand. (Personally I prefer that players step inside the court and threaten their opponents second serves)

Does this move require anything special? Yes, and they are:

- Patience to wait until after your opponent strikes the serve.

- Foot speed to quickly adjust to the ideal position.

- Fast reactions or you will be late.

- Good reading eyes to judge the moment.

- Great co-ordinations because there are a series of very complex movements involved.

- Stroke precision, you are putting yourself out of position and you must place the ball in a corner away from your opponents reach.

- Courage, goes with the saying 'no guts no glory', you do not win BIG if you do not take risks.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga  once again with his fantastic shot making, proves that he is a very complete player and that a bright future in tennis may be in the making.

Try this inside out forehand return in practice first with a friend and in match play and tournaments as you get more confident.
