What happened in the French Open yesterday? Justine Henin v Samantha Stosur Game, set and Match Stosur 2-6 6-1 6-4 Tennis is a tough sport and status quo often means nothing, four-time champion Justine Henin learned that the hard way yesterday. In Stosur, Henin found her match, in athleticism, skills, power and determination! Not much separated them in the end, just a couple points, but one statistic comes to mind and it strongly reveals who was dictating the match, Winners (Including Service) Justine had 14 (10 if we deduct 4 aces) and Samantha 26 (24 if we deduct 2 aces). It is obvious that Samantha was the most aggressive player and the one who was making things happen! One day I would like to have great big muscles and shoulders like Stosur! Now Samantha has a chance to go muscle to muscle against Serena, in a match where the highest percentage of first serves will decide the winner. Novak Djokovic vs. Robby Ginepri Game, set and Match Djokovic 6-4, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 Ginepri the last American player in the men's draw fought his way to Djokovic, but against Novak fighting was just not enough! After winning the second set and equalizing the match, it was obvious that Robby was out played, out smarted and out of the tournament by Novak! The lack of relaxation on Ginepri's strokes is the culprit, in long hard fought matches everything gets tight on Robby, accuracy, clear thinking and tactical options just vanish! On the other hand Djokovic, loose as a goose started pounding away at Ginepri's shorter and perfect waist high balls, in other words, in Novak's favorite hitting zone! Than the power from Novak combined with delicate drop shots and the occasional lob left Ginepri completely beduffled. Finishing Ginepri off was pure formality for Novak. Will Melzer a gifted Austrian player who I saw in the US Open 2008 losing (physically and mentally) against Andy Murray in a complete meltdown 6-7(5), 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-1, 6-3, be the end station for Djokovic? Hardly! I like Melzer he has a very good game with plenty of variation and creativity, but he has two Achilles, his temper (mentally) and often he breaks down also physically. However the match develops and in spite of who will win, I am sure it will be an excelent match full of variation and creativity. Rafael Nadal vs. Thomaz Bellucci Game set and Match Nadal 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 Whatever the experts are saying, I am not convinced! Thomaz Bellucci rocked Nadals boat all the way to Mallorca! Things could have been a lot worst for Nadal if young Bellucci had a little more believe and experience, the boat could have sunk! Nadal is just not playing assertive domineering tennis like he was in 2008! Two statistics reveal plenty, Unforced Errors 27, Winners 25 (if you deduct 2 aces) this tells me that Nadal is shaky. Will 'El Almagro' take advantage of this and send Nadal packing? Almagro has mounted pretty stiff challenges to Nadal in the past, will he overcome a life time wining deficit like he did against Verdasco? Possible but very unlikely! Sticking my neck in the nozzle, but I predicted quarter finals in this site as end station for Federer, have to stick to it! Soderling in 4! Impressive runs; Yaroslava Shvedova KAZ, Francesca Schiavone ITA, Nicolas Almagro ESP, Jurgen Melzer AUT. Will these players have more surprises in store? Sergio Cruz
