Indications are that Roger Federer's return to the US Open comes with a taste of revenge from last years defeat in the final to presently injured Argentine player, Juan Martin Del Potro, who is a no show for the tournament. Oddly enough Roger gets an Argentine player Brian Dabul, to ventilate last years frustrations and made short work of Dabul in one hour and 26 minutes 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. Brian Dabul is a unheralded Argentine player like many others who play around the world who turned pro in 2001 who never made it into the main draw of the US Open . Calling Brian Dabul of Argentine a 'debutant' is a gross miss-representation of what the Argentine offered as opposition to Federer. Roger Federer perfectly aware of not being in front of debutant played a tennis match where he did not want to allow Brian Dabul into it. It was a great pleasure to watch Federer once more playing in the winning mode. For this kind of tennis I would have to go back to Hamburg 2007, where Federer defeated Nadal in final for first time on clay! Federer was simply, aggressive, ruthless and dominant: - Serving consistent and varied. - Mixing in a little serve and volley still too little for my taste, but a step in the right direction. - Putting constant pressure on his opponent second serves (sometimes first serves), by taking the ball early inside the court ripping the cover out of the top of the ball, exploring attacking possibilities or generating outright winners. - Playing tight mostly inside of the court and looking to finish points at every opportunity or attack. - Using the slice backhand as a weapon, to generate weak short shots or as a devastating attacking tool. - Giving Brian Dabul no chance to breath or situate himself in the match! Sure there were some pretty darn easy volleys missed, caused by Roger's extreme side ways head positioning for every shot an issue neglected by Federer through the years. Otherwise we could even dismiss it as being part of the territory attackers delve in. Paul Annacone has awakened the 'old' Federer of 2003-2007, is this a sign that the 'Federer Express' is back in this US Open 2010? If Federer sustains this attitude with tougher opponents and is able to physically respond, this US Open could be a short process for the 'Federer Express'! Sergio Cruz
